Divorce Lawyers New York - What should a joint parenting agreement contain?

What should a joint parenting agreement contain?

A joint parenting agreement should first contain an element that states that the parents have agreed to share joint custody of the child or children. The agreement should also specify which location the child or children will reside at and with what parent on what specific date or time. The agreement should also contain information on how the major and day to day decisions will be made by the parents. The agreement should also contain a method for solving disputes and allow for a periodic review of the entire joint parenting agreement.
The agreement should be signed by both parties and submitted to the court to be made into a court order, whether that be a separate joint parenting agreement order or whether the joint parenting agreement be made a part of the judgment of dissolution and entered as one judgment order. Many joint parenting agreements are very specific as it relates to the visitation schedule. It will list which holiday that each parent has parenting time with the children, whether it be every year, odd years or even years. While there is no limit to what parties may put into a joint parenting agreement, the above factors must be part of a joint parenting agreement for it to meet court approval.
